All Kentucky Self-Insured Funds Are Not Alike:
Kentucky Retail Federation Self Insurers Fund
Small but Strong
The Kentucky Retail Federation Self-Insured Fund (KRF-SIF) would like to take this opportunity
to remind agents, members and potential members that the Fund is a stable and reliable source for
workers compensation coverage for eligible businesses in Kentucky. The KRF-SIF is a homogenous fund,
as defined by the Kentucky Workers’ Compensation Commission. Unlike many funds in the state,
we write coverage for specific categories of class codes: retail businesses and services. We do not
include classifications such as nursing homes, hospitals, delivery services, manufacturing, etc.
In addition:
- Excess Coverage -Provided by an A.M. Best A rated carrier with a $350,000 self-insured
retention levels; and $2,000,000 in aggregate coverage. (This coverage is purchased by the Fund, without any additional
cost to the individual members.)
- Claims Management -Claims management is based in Louisville and handled by adjusters experienced in Kentucky claims.
- Claim Reserves -Aggressively managed, reviewed and continually adjusted as new information develops.
- Financial Auditing -The Fund undergoes rigorous financial auditing on a regular basis, including those
conducted by an outside CPA firm, an actuary firm and with audits conducted by both our reinsurer and the
Kentucky Office of Workers’ Claims.
- IBNR Reserves -IBNR reserves are developed for those claims that have not yet been reported and for
claims with unforeseen development. These reserves meet all actuarial requirements for future loss development.
- Investments -High quality investments generate returns in equity and fixed income markets.
Significant portion of the investment portfolio is invested in AAA rated securities.
Money market funds are highly liquid and available when/if needed.
- Fund Balance -Solid growth with a balance suggesting substantial growth capacity in written premium.
Entrusting your workers’ compensation coverage to us is confidence well placed.
The KRF-SIF is maintained and safeguarded by a team of professionals that are your neighbors,
friends and fellow Kentucky retail business owners - not an outside entity driven by profits.
We encourage you to call us for more information. Our Fund manager will be pleased to provide
details and specifics on our policies, procedures, and current and/or past financial status.
